The team has been working on post season speeches and saying thanks to our mentors. We expect the robot back in 4-6 weeks. When the robot arrives, we will begin working on it and make it function as we planned from the beginning.

Team 2865 Roboteknix placed 84 out of 86 teams this weekend due to some unexpected problems turning up. We kept burning up the motors used for our kicker and kept frying Jaguars. During our final round of the competition, our driver ended up having the wrong drivers pin on which got us a red card and disabled for the remainder of the match.

Since the Portland Autodesk Regionals, Roboteknix has been hard at work trying to get last minute things done. Every night 6-8 members have been staying for hours and packing, programming, or working in CAD. We have come up with a new kicker design and a method of holding the soccer balls to the front of our robot. A couple members have also been watching other regionals to see what teams win and what their strengths and weaknesses are so that we can be better prepared in atlanta.

Lack of posts is due to spring break and nothing much getting done. Our mentor, Mike, helped us come up with a couple kicker prototypes and test them. We have finally gotten a kicker that can successfully clear a bump, even when all the way against it. We are having driver training and selection at the test field supplied by LCF Enterprises. We are planing out strategies and going over what didn't work in Portland so we are better prepared for Atlanta.

The Autodesk Portland Regional is now over, Roboteknix placing 19 out of 61 teams. We had some issues on the practice day, our program was still iterating really slowly, pneumatics were not functioning, and we were overweight. Our lead programmer Enmar spent the day working on the program and managed to get it running at the correct speed. The build team removed part of the robot that the surgical tubing connected to, shaving off enough weight to bring us to .4 pounds under the limit.

During qualification matches, we realized that kicking just wasn't the way to go because it took too long to get lined up for an accurate shot and because it was not reliable enough. Watching the game, the scouting team realized that most bots would just push the balls into the goals. We decided to convert our bot to a pushing bot towards the end of the matches, and that we would remove the kicker and pneumatics when we got a chance. We spent the remaining time playing goalie and scoring points when we could.

Most of our failure was because we spent most of the build season talking about design and strategy, and only about a week actually building. This was a lesson for us about the importance of making decisions quickly, and using time more efficiently.

Overall, we did okay at the competition; learned what worked and what didn't work with our design, what needs to be fixed in the program, and how other teams would play. There is much work to be done before the Atlanta competition.
